Plenary meeting November 2024
29.01.2025
Thomas BUBERL is delighted to be present at this plenary meeting of the European Works Council, the last to be held in Rueil-Malmaison. The Matignon headquarters reopened the day before this session. He hopes that the next meeting can be held there.
The AXA Group, a global insurance giant, recently published its third-quarter results. In a global context marked by increasing political and climatic instability, AXA must adapt to maintain its position of strength.
The global environment is particularly volatile. Human tragedies linked to climate change, such as in the Valencia region of Spain, illustrate the urgent need for action. Thomas Buberl, CEO of AXA, calls for concerted solutions to be found with states and governments, while noting the uneven acceptance of the phenomenon around the world.
On the economic front, the situation is gradually evolving in Asia, while relations with US companies are becoming more complex. Thomas Buberl stresses the need for AXA to adapt now and take strategic decisions to deal with this.
Despite this difficult environment, the AXA Group remains in a strong position, with high solvency and continued growth. The initial results of the Unlock the Future plan are in line with expectations, and AXA's growth figures are attractive.
An important strategic decision was taken recently: the sale of AXA IM to BNP Paribas. This decision, which was not easy to take, aims to strengthen AXA IM's position in a changing market.
Finally, Thomas Buberl emphasised the importance of the company's commitment to society, particularly in the areas of climate change and social inclusion. The health offering for employees will be strengthened, with tools such as Mind Health Self-check.
Pascale Rauline pays tribute to the work of Toni Pastor, a former UNI expert with the EWC, who recently left the company. She welcomes the new UNI expert, Soledad Castellar, who has already joined the work in progress.
She also pointed out that the AXA Group was celebrating the first anniversary of its charter to support employees aged over 50, and the EWC was keeping a close eye on the charter's implementation.
Lastly, Pascale Rauline spoke about the impact of the planned sale of AXA IM on the Group's employees, pointing out that the EWC is supporting this project in the interests of the employees and ensuring that the jobs of those concerned are safeguarded.
Koen Hermans proposed to continue this plenary session with a presentation of the AXA Research Fund by welcoming Dr Aduragbemi Banke-Thomas, who shared her work aimed at improving access to healthcare for women, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa.
The plenary session will be followed by two days of training, organised jointly by the management and the CEG. They will focus on the themes of inclusion, care, the fight against domestic violence, AXA's commitment to employees aged 50 and over, and cultural awareness. (Find the training content here)
