Bureau meeting February 28th 2024

08.07.2024

Elodie Batout-Badaire, Deputy Head of Group Employee Relations, and Koen Hermans, Head of Compensation, Benefits and International Mobility, welcomed members of the secretariat to discuss the Group's results and new strategic plan. They stressed the importance of increasing AXA's role in society. Two topics were presented at this meeting: the Group's strategy and ambitions in terms of sustainable development, presented by Martin Powell, Group Director of Sustainable Development, and an update on the Group's philanthropic sponsorship of research projects into the challenges of tomorrow, presented by Julia d'Astorg, Director of the AXA Research Fund.

Challenges of sustainable development

Martin Powell presents AXA's sustainable development strategy, based on three pillars: the fight against climate change, inclusive insurance and scientific philanthropy. The AXA Group plans to invest several billion euros over the next 5 years to reduce emissions from its activities and develop new underwriting strategies. It also aims to cover 20 million economically vulnerable customers by 2026 and to take action to reduce air and water pollution. In addition, the Group has set up the AXA Research Fund, in collaboration with scientific research, to contribute to sustainable development. In addition, AXA has set itself the goal of becoming a zero-emission company by 2030 and of developing its volunteer capabilities, aiming to increase the rate of employee volunteers to 50% within 3 years. The Group is working with local human resources to facilitate the development of volunteering and is looking at ways to increase the impact of charitable actions.

Presentation of the AXA Research Fund

Julia D'Astorg presented the AXA Research Fund, pointing out that it invests in more than 500 research projects aimed at tackling tomorrow's crucial challenges in order to drive societal progress. The fund has been in existence for 16 years and its mandate is renewed every 5 years. It has invested over €250 million, supporting science to better understand the world's risks and funding scientists seeking solutions to health, climate, environmental and socio-economic issues. The fund acts as an interface to disseminate knowledge and accelerate the production of science. It also works on research projects jointly with AXA entities, such as AIM or AXA XL, to identify researchers on specific subjects more quickly.
